<\/p>\nPresident\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0used some of his speech at this year\u2019s White House Correspondents\u2019 Association dinner to insult a handful of LGBTQ+ journalists and public figures.<\/p>\n

The Correspondents\u2019 Dinner took place in Washington DC on 24 July, and was intended to recognise achievements in journalism and award scholarships.<\/p>\n
The first LGBTQ+ journalist to be hit by Trump\u2019s speech was gay reporter\u00a0Anderson Cooper. \u201cI like Anderson actually because he\u2019s covered me well for many years, and he went bad as soon as I went for politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Cooper served as a correspondent on CBS News program\u00a060 Minutes<\/em>\u00a0for almost two decades before he\u00a0stepped down in February. However, he continued as the anchor for his CNN show\u00a0Anderson Cooper 360\u00b0<\/em>, which he has hosted since 2003.<\/p>\n \u201cBut for years he loved the interview. I did so many interviews with him, and he was great, but he\u2019s got a little different persuasion than me in many ways actually,\u201d Trump continued, seemingly referencing the fact that Cooper is gay.<\/p>\n The second LGBTQ+ figure slighted by Trump was CNN anchor and independent journalist\u00a0Don Lemon. Lemon made headlines himself earlier this year after he live-streamed a report where protesters interrupted a Sunday church service in Minnesota over the presence of ICE agents in the state, and more recently said he was\u00a0thinking about running for president, adding that\u00a0he\u2019d do a better job than Trump.<\/p>\n Right-wing musician Nicki Minaj called Lemon a homophobic slur following his coverage, and Lemon fired back,\u00a0calling her a \u201chomophobic bigot\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had a contest for who had the lowest ratings and the lowest IQ on television, and that was actually Don Lemon, I think,\u201d Trump said in his speech.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I said that he\u2019s the dumbest man on television, I said, when you say some things, you never make a comeback. It\u2019s not like, \u2018Oh, gee, hey Don, let\u2019s have dinner some night.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Trump then made comments about trans influencer and actress\u00a0Dylan Mulvaney. He honed in on Mulvaney while addressing CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins, who he called a \u201cyoung, attractive woman\u201d who \u201cnever smiles\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn\u2019t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cDylan Mulvaney cost Bud Light $35billion in market cap. I wouldn\u2019t want to hire Dylan anytime soon.
