Valeria refused to speak to him. She spent the next four hours staring out the window, tears silently running down her face. Every time a crew member passed, she flinched, convinced they all knew.<\/p>\n

Ricardo kept checking his phone, but there was no signal at 35,000 feet. He could only imagine the emails piling up \u2014 messages from his boss, HR, and probably the police about misuse of company funds.<\/p>\n

Elena never raised her voice. She didn\u2019t cry. She didn\u2019t make a scene. Instead, she did something far worse.<\/p>\n

She treated him like any other passenger.<\/p>\n

She offered him a warm towel. She asked if he wanted the steak or the fish. She even wished him a pleasant stay in Barcelona when she collected the trays.<\/p>\n

Ricardo\u2019s voice cracked. \u201cElena\u2026 I\u2019m sorry. I made a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

She gave him the same calm smile she had worn at boarding.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, Ricardo. You didn\u2019t make a mistake. You made nine years of choices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Valeria was already rushing down the jet bridge, trying to disappear into the crowd.<\/p>\n

As Ricardo stepped off the plane, two men in suits were waiting at the gate \u2014 company security and a police officer.<\/p>\n

Elena watched from the doorway as they approached her soon-to-be ex-husband.<\/p>\n
